1783-NATR setup checklist that prevents rework
Updated Feb 2026 • Networking / Rockwell
This is a practical checklist for NAT based segmentation. Keep it simple and prove each step.
Before you touch the hardware
- Confirm which side is inside and which side is outside
- Write the IP plan and the NAT table in one page
- Decide your testing order (ping, then app access, then remote tools)
Verification sequence
- Confirm link and speed on both ports
- Ping inside devices from inside network
- Ping translated addresses from outside network
- Test the actual application protocol next (HMI, VNC, etc.)
- Capture proof screenshots
Common failure points
- Wrong gateway on one side
- Duplicate translated IP address
- Firewall rule blocking the protocol (not ICMP)
- DNS resolving to non-translated address
